the rise of women in gaming

By

Hello, I’m the admin of Blush Gaming. I’ve been into video games ever since I was very young, playing (which technically meant watching playthroughs of) games like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past or Super Mario World. More recently I’ve come into my element of gacha games like Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves (any Jinhsi mains still out there?).

Often, however, gaming is portrayed as more of masculine hobby. A good portion of the big names in gaming belong to men. That doesn’t mean their content isn’t good, far from it, but women are sorely underrepresented in this field. And unfortunately, I often shied away from coming forward about my love for gaming due to fears of being judged or rejected.

I don’t want to be that person anymore. I want to be bold about what I love and I want to find a community of women who enjoy the same things and believe that gaming should be inclusive and have equal representation.

Why do I believe this? Because hobbies have no gender even though they are sadly often stereotyped. Men can love to cook just as much as women can love playing video games. In addition, it can be turned into a great career for anyone! Many gamers are making good livings while either doing content creation full time or working another job with their hobby on the side.

There are lots of subreddits about gaming and we can join them for free anytime we want! It’s refreshing to see so many other people with the same interests as us, isn’t it? And if you have a sufficient following, you can even create your own. If you can think of it, there’s probably a community somewhere out there for it. So why not bring them all together where we can embrace and respect each other?

So we know how gaming is dominated by males? The gap is slowly being bridged. Women now make up 48% of gamers globally while men make up 51%. That’s an amazing statistic!

In addition, games have so many strong female characters to draw the girlies in. Characters like Samus, Tifa Lockhart, and Princess Zelda (stronger in later games, let’s be fair) are just a few.

Gaming can also teach so many skills that can be used in the real world. It teaches teamwork and patience, which are vital to any job. Teamwork so you can create stunning projects so you can get that promotion you know you deserve, and patience for waiting for that promotion you know you deserve. You deserve a promotion and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Getting back on topic, I’ve made lots of friends through gaming. I hope that by joining this little community I can make more and that you too can make some. I’ve built the confidence to start this little blog and maybe someday you can come forward too.

So join us! Share your story and your passions. I hope you enjoy the ride.
